It was so very brave of you to post this. It is comforting for me to read of someone going through many of the same things as me. Being a mother brings soo much pressure with it. So much guilt. To work? Stay home? To be a perfect, do-it-all, take-care-of-everything mom. Not much recognition, not changing the world with some major cause, interrupted sleep, lots of screaming and poop . . . A whole different world then college or work. I am currently working really hard to take care of myself, as well as my family and it is making such a difference! Take care of yourself and thank you again for the gift of this post.

I'm so proud of you for having the courage to write that post. You are truly a phenomenal person Dawana. You WILL walk through this and come out the other end triumphant. Psalm 34, especially the end of it, has been of real comfort to me over the last couples years. Verses 18-20 say: "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, NOT ONE of them will be broken".
I think often when we're walking through tough times, we feel like there's no way we're gonna come out and if we do make it out of this valley that there's no way that we'll be OK. This Psalm remands me first of all that it's fine to cry out to God - that he wants my honesty and cares when we're depressed or down - and secondly that even though I might feel that I'm being crushed to a pulp, when I come out of this NOT ONE bone will be broken! I often find myself reading it over in faith. I will be praying that this Psalm becomes a reality for you.

I miss you tons! Love lots,
Jams

I believe the main reason you try to keep yourself so busy is to keep your mind occupied in something else besides negative thoughts. When your mind is busy with work you don’t have time to worry. This is a common strategy used among many people battling depressive disorder. The more you say yes, the more you engage in activities besides those that are not essential for your well being and the well being of your family the more you get lost… It’s like you are running away from what will cure you… The question that you have to ask yourself is why? Why do you choose this knowingly that it doesn’t work :( I believe once you figured this out you will discover a whole new way of seeing the world around you. I applaud you for writing this post and creating awareness about this debilitating disorder that is more common than people think...

This is so near and dear to me my friend. I battle everyday to wonder if I am tripping down the depression hole. Down time means I have to deal with myself and the minutiae and the crap and drama of my family and all that weighs on someone. Especially now that I am a SAHM and I am not career driven like I used to be. While my sleep habits are getting to be more okay, they are not where I want them to be and the anxiety is the worst...my face flushes I feel nauseous. But I refuse to go on medication ever again....destroyed me once...and my family, never again and I totally sympathize with you....I know all of these feelings and thoughts in this post.

Well, this took a lot out of me to read. First and foremost, YOU ARE NOT CRAZY. You are not alone in such a situation. There are a lot of veterans who comes home and suffer with depression. Like you said, not everyone is lucky enough to go get the help they need, and take it a step further. You are wise, loving, caring and a Mother Theresa. This is something I have always told you, you want to save the world. Well, the owner of the world God, will save you. I thank God for a son-in-law like Chris, who is standing by your side through this time. You know you have a very large family back here in NY, who is there for you everyday. This will all go away eventually. One thing your grandfather always said, we are a family of so many women, and we are too INDEPENDENT. I think, no, I know, that is our biggest problem. That's what makes things difficult for us if we are not being hard on ourselves. The biggest thing about what you are going through, is that you have recognized the problem, and working on it. It will take time, but continue being strong, and DON'T BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF. Like you were told, the only thing you have to do, is take care of you, my beautiful grandaughter, and you supportive husband. The bible verse you quoted, is one I read and have marked and live by. Also, one thing I have learn't "DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF"
Hang in there, and remember we are there for you, God loves you, and will take you through this difficult time. You will come out on top, wanna bet?

Love,
Ma
