Honey, lime juice and rum.

By rum of course we mean Jamaican Rum, but I guess any rum will do.

Mix all of these contents in a glass and gargle- don’t swallow!! If you do, you may grow some hair on your chest for sure!

This will ease your sore throat. Guaranteed.

You’re welcome.

Stay tuned for more random Jamaican get well home remedies. ;-)

I think that I enter my child in every photo contest available, why? Cause I think she’s the cutest kid on earth. Isn’t it my Mommy duty to think so?

Anyway, Parenting.com is hosting a Baby & Child Model search and I entered Cadence’s picture. Won’t you vote for her, please?

Doh!

Posted by Dawana on Feb 18, 2010 in Posts

Yup… like Homer Simpson.

So Baby C had a kid’s meal at Subway the other day and got this super cute reusable tote as a “toy” I guess…

Anyway, just now, she packed all of her toys in it and throws it over her shoulder- “oh honey,” I shout, “how cute.”

To which he says “Take a picture!”

So I grab my camera, turn it on, get ready for the shot- get the shot and I start to step away and it all happened so quickly:

- I trip
- I try to stop said trip from occurring
- I am unsuccessful in that endeavor
- I knock over the diffuser on the way down
- Step on the dog’s foot
- Dog lets out a HUGE scream because I stepped on his foot
- Dog runs
- I fall on dog bed
- I notice diffuser liquid is spilling all over dog bed

Yup. I am that clumsy.

I drop everything, break things, trip over stuff, I even fall… Remind me to tell you about the time I was at a party in college and I walked out the back door slipped and fell into SOMEONE’S FUCKING VOMIT! Ya. That was fun.

My kid is fucked if she’s depending on my genes to help her athletically.

Here’s the damn picture I was trying to take:

Cooking With Momma: Week of 2/14

Posted by Dawana on Feb 18, 2010 in Posts

You may have noticed that I didn’t put up my weekly menu this Sunday. Here are the reasons why:

  • I didn’t make one because:
  • I don’t feel like cooking this week- at all.

Alas, I did cook.

Yesterday we had grilled chicken & baked french fries.
Today? I have no clue what we are going to eat yet… Ah well.

Cooking With Momma: “It’s Italian” Sausage Soup

Posted by Dawana on Feb 10, 2010 in Posts

I don’t know what cooking magazine I tore this recipe out of, so I don’t know who to give props to for this recipe.

I DO know that it looked good on paper, then I started to cook it and thought “uh-oh this is gonna be gross.” That ever happen to you?

Alas, I think I just got overwhelmed by the smell of tomatoes in the kitchen, you know like when your kid puts too much ketchup on the plate, then it just sits there? That smell.

It’s actually really tasty. So, I thought I’d share. This recipe makes 8 servings (according to them), so I split it in 1/2 so we didn’t have a whole bunch.

Cooking Time:

Prep: 1 1/4 hrs.
Chill: 2 hrs.
Heat: 35 mins.

Ingredients:

1 lb. bulk Italian sausage (I use turkey italian sausage)
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium carrot, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
8 cups chicken broth
1 14 1/2-oz. can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
1 bay leaf
1 tsp. dried oregano, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried basil, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
1/4 tsp. fennel seeds, crushed (I left these out)
1/2 cup dried Orzo pasta
Finely shredded Parmesan cheese (optional)

  1. In 4-quart Dutch oven, cook sausage, onion, carrot and celery over medium heat until sausage is brown. Drain off fat.
  2. Add broth, tomatoes, tomato sauce, bay leaf, oregano, rosemary, basil, garlic, thyme and fennel seed. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Transfer to storage container. Cover and chill for 2 to 24 hours. (I’m not really sure why they have you do this)
  3. To serve, return mixture to Dutch oven. Bring to boiling. Stir in pasta. Return to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Discard bay leaf. If desired, sprinkle each serving with Parmesan cheese.

*Nutritional Info (for my friends watching what they eat):
Per Serving: 286 calories, 19 g total fat (6 g saturated fat), 46 mg chol., 1,622 mg sodium, 17 g carbo., 2 g fiber, 12 g pro.*

No Ride Up? Yeah Right!

Posted by Dawana on Feb 10, 2010 in Posts

So as a new mom something that I chose to forgo is spending an obnoxious amount of money on underwear at Victoria’s Secret. I know your secret Victoria, you’re expensive! Moving on… I purchased a pack of Hanes “No-Ride Up Panties.”

On their site, they promise the following:

“These panties won’t ride up. That’s our Comfort Fit promise”

If you aren’t satisfied with Hanes’ undies, you can send them back (at your expense, of course) and they will replace your undies.

Gee Hanes, are you going to send me more panties that give me a wedgie at every turn? Cause that would be sweet! I enjoy taking my kid to the park and subtly trying to pull out my wedgie amongst other Moms… or being in the endless line at Costco with cotton stuck up my ass! That’s awesome.

So, I’m giving Hanes’ no-wedgie panties a thumbs down. Just sayin’.
